It looks like beer-ball swinging Stone Cold Steve Austin lookalike Matt Stairs won out the spare outfielder spot with Philadelphia.  Geoff Jenkins finds himself out of work, although he’ll still collect the $8 million owed to him this season.
The Florida Marlins apparently have expressed interest in the 34 year-old Jenkins.

The Washington Nationals have released Willy Mo Pena.  Pena was once considered part of the Reds’ outfield of the future along with Adam Dunn and Austin Kearns.  Unfortunately for Pena, he only looks like and shares part of his name with Mo Vaughan.
The old Jim Bowden Reds’ outfield could have been reunited this season in [...]

Jeff Keppinger was all but out of options with the Cincinnati Reds, so the team moved him to Houston today for a player to be named later.  Keppinger saw time at nearly every infield position last season, and was loved by fans for his viking-esque red beard.
The 29-year old hit .266 last season and gives [...]

Gary Sheffield has been released by the Detroit Tigers.  He had $14 million owed to him this season, and the Tigers are still on the hook for that.  Sheffield was often injured and unhappy during his time in Detroit, and he leaves the team just one home run shy of joining the 500 club.
The Toronto [...]

The Pittsburgh Pirates optioned left handed starter Tom Gorzelanny to AAA Indianapolis today after they had become displeased with his progress this spring.  “Gorzo” struggled with his command and velocity throughout most of 2008, a season in which he posted a 6-9 record to go along with a lousy 6.66 ERA.  Gorzelanny emerged in 2007 [...]

Cole Hamels was in a league of his own at times last season, and he led the Phillies rotation to their World Series victory.  The troubling news with Hamels is that he pitched 227.1 innings last season, at the age of 24.  Hamels ascent to the top-tier of National League starters was meteoric, but a [...]

I don’t know what to tell you.  For one thing, I’m finding it hard to believe that things are so bad for Alex Rodriguez that he sleeps on a barren mattress in an auto-body shop. (Hat-Tip The Sports Hernia)

On Papelbon On Manny

Jonathan Papelbon takes himself very seriously.  That’s why he stares down batters with his mouth permanently stuck in the old “cock-sucker’s cramp” pose.  He takes himself so seriously that it doesn’t seem like even he had any idea of the shit coming out of his mouth when he spoke about Manny Ramirez to Esquire.
It’s one [...]

For no other reason than I’m very bored at work, I have doctored some quotes from Brian McNamee.  You can find out what he was actually talking about over at SportsImproper, but I assure you, this doctored transcript is much more fun.
SI:  Mr. McNamee, where did you and Roger first do it?
BM:  The place was [...]

What would an off-season be without Milton Bradley causing a little bit of a stir?  Probably a peaceful one, but who cares?  Milton is apparently a little bit miffed at the treatment he received from the Texas Rangers in negotiations this winter.  Although he had the best season of his career last year, he was [...]
