- The Pittsburgh Pirates optioned left handed starter Tom Gorzelanny to AAA Indianapolis today after they had become displeased with his progress this spring. “Gorzo” struggled with his command and velocity throughout most of 2008, a season in which he posted a 6-9 record to go along with a lousy 6.66 ERA. Gorzelanny emerged in 2007 as a bright spot in a young Pirates’ rotation by going 14-10 with a 3.88 ERA.
- On his second attempt at becoming Tim Wakefield’s personal catcher and a backup to Jason Varitek, Josh Bard was cut by the Boston Red Sox. You may remember Bard’s brief stint with the BoSox in 2006 before he was traded to San Diego for his predecessor in Boston, Doug Mirabelli.
