The re-stocked bullpen of the New York Mets looked strong in the opener in Cincinnati. Mets’ rookie Daniel Murphy provided all the offense that Johan Santana and the Mets would need with two RBI including a solo home run off of Aaron Harang in the 5th inning. Reds’ second baseman Brandon Phillips collected his first career Gold Glove prior to the game, he also chipped in with the lone Cincy RBI in the 2-1 loss. Nick Lachey threw the first pitch to kick off what should be an exciting season for the Reds.
- C.C. Sabathia tossed a stinker in his Yankees debut. The Yankees fell to the Baltimore Orioles after Sabathia walked five batters and gave up six earned runs over 4.1 innings of work. Sabathia failed to record a strikeout in what could be considered a pretty disastrous first start for New York.
- The Arizona Diamondbacks rode the power of Felipe Lopez and Tony Clark, who each homered twice, to a 9-8 defeat of the Colorado Rockies. The division rivals combined to use 11 pitchers in this one.
- A combination of decent pitching and an offensive outburst carried the Toronto Blue Jays to a crushing 12-5 blowout of the Detroit Tigers.
- Ricky Nolasco was mostly sharp over six innings in a 12-6 Marlins’ drubbing over Washington. Former National Emilio Bonifacio led the Florida attack with a homer, two RBI, and three stolen bases. He won’t be lying around on too many fantasy waiver wires this morning.
