Geoff Jenkins Is Odd Man Out in Phillies’ Outfield

It looks like beer-ball swinging Stone Cold Steve Austin lookalike Matt Stairs won out the spare outfielder spot with Philadelphia.  Geoff Jenkins finds himself out of work, although he’ll still collect the $8 million owed to him this season.
The Florida Marlins apparently have expressed interest in the 34 year-old Jenkins.

Reds Trade Keppinger to Astros

Jeff Keppinger was all but out of options with the Cincinnati Reds, so the team moved him to Houston today for a player to be named later.  Keppinger saw time at nearly every infield position last season, and was loved by fans for his viking-esque red beard.

Sheffield Released By Tigers

Gary Sheffield has been released by the Detroit Tigers.  He had $14 million owed to him this season, and the Tigers are still on the hook for that.  Sheffield was often injured and unhappy during his time in Detroit, and he leaves the team just one home run shy of joining the 500 club.
